I spent a wonderful week at Varsana. I needed some time to think and time to get away from the pressure of being a tourist. Varsana's eco farm and the wonderful community that they have here was a perfect getaway for me. I met great people, I cooked and ATE THE MOST DELICIOUS VEGETARIAN FOOD for the whole week. Working in the organic garden was also a treat. Have you ever tried uchuvas? Or cleaned lettuce that still had dirt attached from about 50m away? When you come (and you should because it's fantastic) then bring rain gear, and LOTS of warm clothes, but other than that the only thing in your suitcase is an open mind and maybe a deck of cards. Enjoy!
I arrived into Bogota after 3 days on a bus from Lima. Varsana provided the perfect retreat to relax and enjoy the generous servings of vegetarian food. The volunteer duties included cooking, gardening and helping out with cleaning and organising. The accomodation is confortable and the people living in the community are lovely. A great alternative for open minded travellers.
profile photo From Nicole (Colombia) Visit profile Hola Premi! Finally wrote the review, sorry it took so long! Here you go - I loved my two weeks spent volunteering at Varsana Eco Village, it was a complete change in lifestyle that was extremely refreshing and exactly what I was looking for. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and eager to help you learn about their way of life and philosophy. The work was enjoyable and changed everyday. For me, it was the well needed break from constant moving and a good opportunity to learn from the most friendly, happy people, I hope to return someday!
Miss you all, hope everyone is doing well! Nicole Var
After travelling from city to city in Colombia for a month, working in Varsana was exactly what I needed. The village is breathtakingly beautiful with lush green hills and an abundance of colourful plant life surrounding the farms. Everyone in the village is so lovely and fun and really made me feel welcome immediately. You have the opportunity to learn about plant uses and Hare Krishna philosophy and if you stay for a couple of weeks you get to know the people well enough that makes a great opportunity for practicing Spanish. This was a peaceful getaway that gave me a much needed break from travelling and a chance to slow down, detox and adapt to a simple routine for a couple of weeks. Thank you guys for everything! Hi guys, Hare Krishna! After traveling for a while and living and volunteering in some communities, I must say that Varsana is one of the models of how community life should be. The spiritual work is like the glue that holds everything together, and fills our hearts with love. Love is the main theme of my stay here in Varsana, everyone is so loving, they just want you to be happy. The volunteer house is really cosy and nice, feels like home, and the food they serve, 3 meals a day, is the most amazing food I ate while travelling. especially if your vegetarian. My heart is so full of joy and love now, after 5 days in Varsana, and I would like to share this with you. If you have the oppurtunity, come here for a few days or a week and just let the love flow.

Arrived here to discover a paradise. Volunteer work was interesting including harvesting fruit, watering the green house, composting, cooking, cutting labels etc. hot shower was appreciated. Mattress a little less comfortable than I would have liked. Staff very friendly and yoga class was beneficial. Tasty vegetarian meals- rare in Colombia! Wifi in temple added bonus. Beautiful surrounding area to explore eg waterfall and stone animals. If I find more time this trip I'll be back for sure. Thanks Premi for looking after me. Reply

I had a wonderful ten days volunteering in the Hare Krishna community. Everyone there is extremely welcoming and kind. Both the monastery grounds and the surrounding area are breathtakingly beautiful. The food is amazing, be prepared to eat incredible veggie meals 3x day --there's usually enough for thirds. You have a lot of time after lunch to ...read more Reply
